Every backed-up file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it touches disk. The encryption key is stored separately. Physical access to the server is not enough — without the key, the files are unreadable.

Security & Compliance
Your data stays in Sweden — encrypted, isolated, and covered by a GDPR data processing agreement.
Backups are not just an IT convenience — they are a compliance requirement. The EU NIS2 directive (Article 21) explicitly requires organisations to manage backups and disaster recovery. The GDPR requires you to be able to restore access to personal data after an incident (Article 32). 365B helps you meet both, without adding new risk: your data never leaves Sweden, and every customer gets a signed data processing agreement.

What services does AegisBackup protect?
We back up Exchange Online (mail, calendar, contacts), OneDrive, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar and Contacts — plus any IMAP mail server, WordPress sites, and Proxmox VMs via AegisProx™. See the full list on our Features page.
How long does a restore actually take?
For a single mailbox, typically under 5 minutes. A full OneDrive or SharePoint restore depends on the size of the data but usually completes in under 30 minutes. You initiate the restore yourself from the portal — no support ticket required, no waiting for us.
Can AegisBackup read or change my live data?
No. We connect using read-only API permissions (Microsoft Graph and Google Workspace DWD) with the absolute minimum scopes required to read your data for backup. We cannot create, modify, move or delete anything in your live Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace environment. It is architecturally impossible.
Where is my backup data stored? Can it leave Sweden?
All backup data is physically stored on servers in Sweden. We never transfer it to a third country or let it be processed outside the EU. This makes AegisBackup fully compliant with GDPR Chapter V on international data transfers — and we provide a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) included in every plan.
What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?
Your backed-up data is retained for 30 days after your subscription ends. During this grace period you can restore anything you need or renew your subscription. After the 30 days your data is permanently deleted from our systems.
